Still life with fruit and flowers. Spanish School. 18th century Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 116 x 90 cm (unframed) / 136 x 111 cm (framed). A still life of great compositional power, it depicts a woven basket overflowing with pomegranates, apples and peaches, accompanied by bunches of grapes, vine branches and white flowers against a dark background. The arrangement of the elements on the shelf creates a play of diagonal light that highlights the textures and volumes. The flowers provide a counterpoint of fragility to the fruit, whilst the detailed brushwork and the sheen of the fruit skins reveal a high degree of technical virtuosity.
