Description
Clay urn from the Magdalena River, Pre-Columbian culture, 1st century BC / 5th century AD Modelled and fired ceramic. Dimensions: 24 x 17 x 17 cm. Pre-Columbian funerary urn with an ovoid body and a rough-textured surface, decorated with anthropomorphic appliqués of a ritual nature. The piece shows visible signs of age, erosion and historical restorations, which reinforce its archaeological authenticity. Its simple and compact form reflects the ceramic traditions of the Magdalena River region in Colombia, where these vessels served funerary and ceremonial purposes linked to spiritual and community practices. The expressive power of its modelling and the symbolic importance of the applied elements, which are organically integrated into the vessel’s structure, are particularly noteworthy. The piece constitutes a valuable material testimony to pre-Hispanic American cultures and their sophisticated ritual and pottery traditions. 24 x 17 cm.
