Exceptional Chinese jade from the Western Han Dynasty, 2nd century BC – 1st century AD.
Carved and chiselled celadon jade. Measures 7.7 x 2.8 cm. A slightly flattened cylindrical bead, perforated lengthwise. One side features figures of fantastical creatures facing each other amidst curvilinear motifs, whilst the other incorporates geometric decoration of interlaced lines. The stone displays brown inclusions and natural colour variations.
