Description
Anthropomorphic female oil lamp, Magna Graecia, 4th–3rd century BC. Modelled and hollowed terracotta. Measures 11.5 x 11 x 4 cm. An oil lamp in the shape of a female bust, with an oval face, almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose and full lips. The figure has wavy hair gathered beneath a flat band and styled in a high updo. The ears appear to be pierced, and the neck is elongated with draped shoulders. The upper part is hollowed out to serve as an oil bowl. The surface shows signs of wear and an earthy patina.
