Anthropomorphic Zemi or Cemí Figure, Dominican – Taíno Culture, 11th–15th Centuries Polished hard stone. Approximate height: 20 cm. A Taíno ceremonial figure of an anthropomorphic nature, with a crouching body and limbs drawn up beneath the torso. The face displays stylised features, including sunken eyes and an open mouth, whilst the upper part is decorated with geometric incised patterns. The polished surface retains dark tones and shows signs of wear consistent with its age and ritual use.
