Exceptional Maitreya Gandhara Buddha, 1st–3rd century Carved from grey schist. Measures 21 x 14 cm. A sculpture of the Buddha Maitreya seated on a quadrangular base, with his legs crossed and dressed in a monastic robe with deep folds. The face has a serene expression, wavy hair gathered at the top, and remnants of a halo or backrest behind the head. The figure shows visible fractures, wear and losses in several areas.
