Kwan Yin in Blanc de Chine porcelain from Dehua, Chinese Qing school, 19th century Dehua Blanc de Chine porcelain. Measures 32 cm in height. A seated figure of Kwan Yin in a meditative pose on a lotus-shaped base with a double row of petals, dressed in flowing monastic robes with undulating folds that drape gracefully over the body. The serene face, with its softly modelled features and half-closed eyes, conveys an intense sense of compassion and spiritual contemplation. The deity is adorned with a pearl necklace and a high topknot crowned with a floral jewel, holding the kalasha ritual vessel in one hand whilst the other performs the vitarkamudra teaching gesture. The ivory-coloured surface of the porcelain has a smooth, luminous texture characteristic of Dehua wares, renowned for the purity of their paste and the delicacy of their finishes. The composition reflects the devotional refinement of late Chinese Buddhism, where the harmony of lines, the softness of the modelling, and introspective spirituality converge in an image of great contemplative elegance. 32 cm in height.
