Description
Sculpture of a young hunter with a bird, signed, French School, 19th century Patinated bronze with a veined marble base. Dimensions: 36 x 44 x 18 cm. This allegorical and naturalistic sculpture depicts a semi-nude child in a dynamic pose, holding a fallen bird whilst standing on rocky terrain adorned with plant and game motifs. The child’s anatomy is modelled with soft, rounded forms, characteristic of 19th-century academic aesthetics, with particular attention paid to the rendering of the wavy hair, the drapery and the polished bronze surfaces. The bird, positioned diagonally behind the figure, adds compositional tension and a sense of movement to the whole. Signed. The work reflects the 19th-century French sculptural tradition inspired by mythological, bucolic and decorative themes, in which the depiction of children takes on an idealised and sentimental character. The quality of the casting and the refinement of the textures demonstrate meticulous craftsmanship, further enhanced by the elegant marble base, which lends the piece both stability and ornamental distinction.
