Estimate €1,000 - €1,500
Description
Exceptional Neoclassical bronze planter, early 19th century Bronze with a brown patina tinged with green. Measures 89 x 56 cm. Circular basin with an open profile, supported by three curved legs joined by a triangular spacer. The basin features a wide moulded rim decorated with gadroons and a band of interlacing patterns inspired by Greek motifs. The base is adorned with stylised ram’s heads in relief, a motif directly derived from the ancient Greco-Roman repertoire and widely reinterpreted in the Neoclassical style. The elegant combination of architectural lines, classical ornamentation and structural balance evokes the decorative styles influenced by the Directoire and Empire periods, which were revisited during the 19th century. The dark patina with greenish undertones accentuates the depth of the relief and enhances the inherent quality of the bronze. 89 x 56 cm.
