Description
The Immaculate Conception, from the circle of La Roldana, Spanish School, late 17th – early 18th century.
Polychrome terracotta sculpture. Dimensions: 44 x 25 x 25 cm. An image of the Immaculate Conception standing on a base of clouds and cherub heads, with her hands clasped in prayer and her gaze raised. The figure wears a tunic decorated with gilded floral motifs and a wide mantle with undulating folds in dark and reddish tones, creating a striking dynamic effect. The polychromy combines brocade and gilded details that enrich the surface of the sculpture, whilst the serene expression of the face and the enveloping movement of the drapery are reminiscent of Baroque models associated with the circle of La Roldana.
