Christ in bronze with the four evangelists in enamels, modelled on Romanesque examples from Limoges, France, 19th century Enamel and silver, mounted on a plexiglass base. Dimensions: crucifix 17 cm; cross 55 cm; overall 55.5 x 38 x 3 cm. An interesting crucifix modelled on Gothic examples from Limoges, probably dating from between the 18th and 19th centuries, and conceived within the historicist tradition of reviving medieval styles. The ends of the cross are decorated with enamels depicting the four Evangelists, an iconographic motif with a long tradition in European religious metalwork. The piece stands out for its technical refinement, its delicate silver and enamel work, and for the devotional power of the figure of the Crucified Christ, conceived within an aesthetic clearly inspired by the Middle Ages. It has subsequently been mounted on a plexiglass stand for conservation and display. A work of notable artistic and liturgical interest, representative of the continuity and reinterpretation of ancient sacred models in European religious art.
