Description
Bullseye clock, French School, 19th century Ebonised wood, marquetry, and a dial with porcelain numerals. Measures 63 x 50 x 12 cm. This wall clock features a lobed profile, known as a ‘bull’s-eye’ clock, decorated with marquetry appliqués and small mother-of-pearl details inspired by floral and geometric motifs. The circular dial incorporates porcelain cartouches with Roman numerals and openwork hands in an elegant, historicist design. The contrast between the dark wood and the light decorative elements creates a refined visual composition with excellent ornamental balance. The sinuous structure and decorative treatment reflect the 19th-century bourgeois taste for parlour clocks inspired by French Napoleon III-style models. The piece combines functionality and decorative refinement, standing out for the harmony of its proportions and the richness of its handcrafted finishes.
