Description
Traditional farm cart, Spanish Folk School, 19th century
Assembled wood and wrought iron. An antique rural horse-drawn cart designed for transporting agricultural produce and tools, constructed with a solid, open rectangular frame and large spoked wheels reinforced by metal rims. The piece retains a distinct folk character thanks to the remnants of bluish polychromy and the expressive texture of the wood, weathered by time. The surfaces display cracks, wear and marks of continuous use that accentuate its historical authenticity, whilst the rusted fittings and original hitching rings reinforce the sense of functional robustness. The simplicity of the lines, combined with the structural efficiency of the handcrafted joints, reflects the traditional solutions developed in 19th-century rural Spain for sturdy and durable work vehicles. Its sculptural presence and the beauty of the natural patinas make this piece a remarkable example of folk art and ethnographic heritage with great decorative appeal.
