Description
Traditional transport cart, Spanish Popular School, 19th century Assembled wood and wrought iron. An open, rectangular agricultural cart designed for transporting goods and tools in traditional rural settings. The piece features large spoked wheels reinforced with metal rims and retains its original hitching and support elements, demonstrating its former practical function. The surfaces show marked wear from prolonged use and exposure to the elements, with open grain, loss of polychromy and oxidation, all of which lend chromatic depth and a rich material quality to the piece as a whole. The design reflects 19th-century Spanish vernacular carpentry, characterised by structural simplicity, stability and mechanical strength. The formal austerity is enriched by the powerful expressiveness of the aged textures and the nobility of the original materials, making the piece a magnificent example of rural decorative arts and traditional ethnographic heritage.
