Description
Rural agricultural cart, Spanish Popular School, 19th century
Assembled wood and wrought iron. An antique farm cart, designed for transporting goods and implements using animal traction, constructed with an open rectangular frame and large spoked wheels reinforced by metal rims. The piece retains a rich patina of age, visible in the weathered surfaces, the natural cracks in the wood, and the oxidation of the metal elements. The side planks show traces of folk polychromy in muted tones, visually enriching the whole and bearing witness to early decorative interventions typical of rural life. The composition is notable for the solidity of its joints and the functional clarity of its forms, characteristics common to 19th-century Spanish artisanal tradition. The expressive power of the aged materials, combined with its structural authenticity and ethnographic significance, makes this piece an outstanding example of folk art and historical rural furniture with a strong ornamental presence.
