Description
Rural freight cart, Spanish Popular School, 19th century
Assembled wood and wrought iron. An antique agricultural cart used for transporting goods and implements by animal traction, with an open structure of austere lines and large spoked wheels reinforced with metal rims. The piece is notable for the richness of its aged textures, evident in the natural cracks, wear and erosion of the wood, as well as in the oxidation of the original metal components. The composition conveys a powerful sense of authenticity thanks to the preservation of its traditional hitching systems and assemblies, crafted using artisanal techniques typical of 19th-century rural Spain. The formal simplicity of the whole is enriched by the beauty of the natural patinas and the sculptural expressiveness resulting from the passage of time on the materials. Its ethnographic and ornamental value makes this cart a magnificent example of rural folk art and a piece of great decorative presence linked to traditional rural heritage.
