Description
Vase with handles and shishi decoration, Japan, Meiji period, 19th–20th century Chiselled bronze or gilded brass. Measures 37 x 18 cm. A baluster-shaped vase with two side handles and a flared neck decorated with a vegetal frieze. The body features relief figures of shishi fish amidst undulating clouds and geometric and plant-inspired ornamental motifs. The reverse side features a second shishi figure in a dynamic pose. The surface shows signs of wear, light scratches and variations in patina.
