Pair of Italian Sorrentino majolica vases, Italian School, circa 1900 Polychrome glazed majolica. Measures 45 x 20 cm. A pair of ornamental vases with an elegant architectural profile, made of glazed ceramic and lavishly decorated with floral motifs and plant elements in relief. The pieces feature a complex structure comprising an ovoid body, a circular pedestal and wide lids crowned with bulbous finials, linked by undulating handles and voluminous appliqués of Baroque inspiration. The decoration unfolds against a white background, dominated by cobalt blues, yellows and greens, forming stylised floral compositions of great visual dynamism that evoke the Mediterranean ornamental tradition. Garlands, scrolls and hanging elements modelled in relief stand out, as do the undulating rims and moulded surfaces that lend sculptural richness to the whole. The brilliant glaze and vibrant colours demonstrate the meticulous technical execution characteristic of Italian majolica from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly associated with the workshops of Sorrento and southern Italy, where Renaissance and Baroque models were reinterpreted in an exuberant and colourful decorative style.
