Description
Chinese Song-Yuan transition period celadon stoneware vase, 13th–14th century
Stoneware with a pale green celadon glaze. Approximately 22 cm high. The vase has a stepped, ovoid body decorated with overlapping bands of rhomboid geometric motifs and incised plant designs on the neck and base. The surface is covered with a jade-green celadon glaze featuring fine natural crackling, a highly prized characteristic of Longquan ceramics. The ascending structure of the body and the refinement of the repetitive decoration create a balanced and elegant visual rhythm. The translucent glaze enhances the reliefs and accentuates the depth of the ornamental motifs through delicate, luminous nuances. The piece reflects the high level of technical skill achieved by medieval Chinese ceramics, where the harmony between form, colour and texture responded to aesthetic ideals linked to contemplation and literary refinement. Approximately 22 cm high.
