Estimate €500 - €800
Description
Stoneware storage jar, Jin school of China, 12th–13th century Honey-coloured stoneware with moulded and calligraphic decoration. Measures 28 x 10 cm. A large storage jar with an ovoid body and a wide top opening, resting on a small circular foot. It is decorated below the shoulder with a moulded wavy frieze and vertical bands delimited by relief bands. The surface features calligraphic inscriptions painted in black, likely relating to the contents or utilitarian function of the vessel. The irregular glaze, in shades of brown and ochre, partially reveals the granular texture of the stoneware, accentuating the piece’s folk and functional character. The robust form and simple decoration reflect domestic production intended for storage and fermentation during the Jin Dynasty. The piece retains a strong material presence derived from the technical integrity of its manufacture and the natural beauty of its fired surfaces. 28 x 10 cm.
