Description
Tuareg dagger, Western Sahara, 19th century
Steel, silver and leather. Dimensions: 26 x 4 x 2 cm. An Argentine criollo knife with a sheath decorated with engraved metal plates and geometric appliqués of a highly ornamental nature. The turned wooden handle culminates in a semi-spherical metal pommel, whilst the sheath combines worked leather and chiselled silver elements inspired by traditional gaucho art. The piece stands out for the richness of its linear and geometric decorative motifs, associated with 19th-century Río de la Plata craftsmanship. The composition reflects the symbolic and practical importance of the knife within Argentine gaucho culture, where such objects were essential elements of social identity and rural tradition. 26 x 4 cm.
