Napoleon III folding screen, French School, 19th century Gilded wood. Measures 190 x 153 x 4 cm. An exceptional three-panel screen made of carved and gilded wood in the French Napoleon III style, designed as a sophisticated decorative piece for the drawing room, intended to enhance the bourgeois and aristocratic interiors of the late 19th century. The structure features a symmetrical composition crowned by a central curvilinear pediment decorated with garlands, ribbons and plant motifs, within whose oval medallion appears a delicate courtly scene inspired by the 18th century. The upper sections incorporate small, geometrically arranged bevelled mirrors that multiply the light and add visual depth, whilst the lower panels are covered with ornamental fabrics featuring refined floral designs and vertical stripes in a classical style. The gilded carving displays meticulous ornamental work based on scrolls, pearl mouldings and plant motifs inspired by Louis XVI, reinterpreted with the eclectic exuberance characteristic of the French Second Empire.
