Description
Walnut chest with lower drawer, Spanish School, 18th century Carved and moulded walnut with iron fittings. Measures 63 x 131 x 53 cm. This chest, with its architectural lines, comprises a hinged upper section and an integrated lower drawer, decorated with moulded panels and geometric relief motifs in the Castilian folk tradition. The front features a symmetrical arrangement of rectangular and rhomboidal coffers that lend visual dynamism and a sense of depth. The surface retains a rich patina, darkened by use and the passage of time, highlighting the piece’s authentic character and the quality of the walnut used. The inclusion of the lower drawer reflects a functional evolution in 18th-century domestic furniture, where storage was optimised without sacrificing aesthetic grandeur. The piece belongs to the tradition of Spanish folk furniture influenced by late Baroque models, standing out for its solid construction and the decorative impact of its mouldings. 63 x 131 x 53 cm.
