Description
An exceptional pair of Mexican colonial jamugas, 18th century
A remarkable pair of 18th-century Mexican colonial armchairs (jamugas), exquisitely crafted in silver, silk and red velvet. These armchairs feature repoussé silver ornamentation, a testament to the fine craftsmanship of Mexican silversmiths, influenced by Spanish colonial design. The seat cushions are adorned with gold thread embroidery and metallic sequins, likely gilded silver. Despite slight wear consistent with their age, they are in excellent condition. These armchairs were a bespoke commission for a distinguished figure of the time. Dimensions: 110 × 70 × 50 cm (seat height: 52 cm). Provenance: Mexico, 18th century.
