Description
Pair of columns. Neoclassical style. 19th century. Polychrome and gilded wood. Dimensions: 215 x 22 x 22 cm each. Freestanding columns with cylindrical shafts, crowned by simply moulded capitals and decorated with hanging gilded garlands against a creamy white background. The lower section features stylised vertical fluting, also enhanced with gilding. These pieces evoke the French-influenced Neoclassical aesthetic, where formal purity and ornamental elegance combine to bring a sense of verticality and architectural rhythm to interiors. Their original function may have been structural or purely decorative, in salons or palatial settings.
