Description
Zarzuela, Spanish Phonographic School, 20th century Shellac gramophone records. Dimensions: 27 x 30 x 5 cm. A set of twelve gramophone records dedicated to the Spanish zarzuela repertoire, preserving the original labels printed with typography and emblems characteristic of the recording industry of the first half of the 20th century. The records feature recordings related to popular Spanish lyric theatre, including musical excerpts and vocal performances accompanied by an orchestra. The black shellac surfaces contrast with the polychrome labels, decorated with commercial motifs and tax stamps, which add historical and documentary interest to the set. These editions reflect the important role of sound recording in the mass dissemination of zarzuela and Spanish stage music, constituting a valuable testimony to the technological and cultural development of home phonography. The lot is of interest to both collectors of historical media and scholars of popular music and the 20th-century sound recording industry.
