Description
Model of the galleon ‘Revenge’ (1577), England or Italy, 20th century
800 fine silver, chased. Dimensions: Approximately 41 x 41 cm. Weight: Approximately 1,610 g. A magnificent model of the legendary English galleon Revenge, launched in 1577 during the reign of Elizabeth I of England and considered one of the most celebrated ships of the Elizabethan navy. Made entirely of 800 fine silver with exquisite chased work, it faithfully reproduces the complex four-masted rigging, the guns and the ornamental features of the historic vessel, demonstrating outstanding craftsmanship and an extraordinary level of detail. The Revenge achieved great renown for its role in the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588 and for the heroic resistance it put up at the Battle of Flowers (1591), becoming one of the great symbols of 16th-century English seafaring. This elegant piece, crafted in the 20th century, is highly appealing to both silver and naval collectors, combining significant decorative value with considerable historical interest. It shows slight signs of wear consistent with its age and is in good overall condition. This lot is stored in an international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export licence from the country of origin may be required.
