Neapolitan or Sicilian master from the circle of Luca Giordano, 17th century – Adoration of the Shepherds Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 95 × 120 cm. This important Baroque painting depicts the Adoration of the Shepherds, one of the most significant episodes in the Nativity cycle, rendered with a dynamic and emotionally intense composition. The scene is centred on the figure of the Christ Child, the focal point of the composition, around whom the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and the shepherds are arranged, their gestures and gazes converging in a profound sense of adoration. The work demonstrates the influence of Luca Giordano in the fluidity of the drawing, the richness of colour, the vigour of the figures, and the masterful treatment of light—characteristics that defined Neapolitan painting in the second half of the 17th century and exerted a profound influence in both Naples and Sicily. The modelling of the figures, the freedom of the brushstrokes, and the balanced interplay of light and shadow place the work within the oeuvre of a prominent Neapolitan or Sicilian master belonging to the circle of the great Baroque painter.
