Southern Ding Plate, China, Song–Yuan dynasties Ding-type glazed ceramic. Dimensions: diameter: 16 cm. An elegant plate from the Southern Ding kilns, produced during the Song or Yuan dynasties. It features an open-profile body with a gently flared rim and a delicate floral motif incised in the centre, executed with great subtlety beneath a fine ivory glaze with slight bluish undertones. The surface reveals the characteristic transparency and smoothness of Ding glazes, whilst the base features an unglazed ring foot, a distinctive feature of this ware. The refined simplicity of its form, combined with the delicacy of the incised decoration and the extraordinary quality of the glaze, makes this piece a magnificent example of Chinese ceramics produced between the late Song and early Yuan dynasties, highly prized by international collectors and museums.
