JACOPO DAL PONTE, KNOWN AS JACOPO BASSANO (Bassano del Grappa, c. 1510/1515 – 1592) Attributed – The Harvest Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 80 x 100 cm. The composition depicts a lively grape harvest scene set in a rural landscape, with peasants picking, transporting and treading grapes amidst rustic architecture. The arrangement of the figures, the prominence given to the peasants’ activities, and the integration of animals and landscape are reminiscent of the celebrated pastoral scenes by Jacopo Bassano and his workshop, one of the Venetian master’s most characteristic themes during the second half of the 16th century. The work reflects the naturalistic sensibility typical of the Venetian school, with a warm colour palette, a carefully constructed landscape, and a marked interest in depicting daily life in the countryside. The iconography bears close resemblance to various grape harvest compositions by Bassano and his circle, now held in major public and private collections.
