Architectural Pedestal in the Belle Époque Style, Italian School, 20th Century Carved and polished white Carrara marble. Dimensions: 90 x 47 x 42 cm. An architectural pedestal with tapered proportions, designed for the display of sculptures, vases or other objects of particular distinction. The central body, which widens slightly towards the top, features recessed panels and stepped mouldings that visually organise the surface and emphasise the piece’s vertical character. The front is centred by an ornamental relief bracket composed of symmetrical scrolls and curved profiles of Classical inspiration, creating an elegant focal point within an otherwise understated composition. The base consists of several superimposed moulded sections that ensure stability, whilst the upper part takes the form of a projecting square platform, likewise structured in stepped registers and designed to support a sculptural object. The treatment of the marble alternates broad polished surfaces with more intricately carved details in the mouldings and scrollwork, allowing light to clearly define the changes in surface and the quality of the material. Its decorative vocabulary belongs to the Classical historicism of the Belle Époque, a period in which the revival of Greco-Roman forms was combined with a refined and monumental ornamental sensibility. The pale hue of the Carrara marble, its geometric precision and balanced proportions lend the pedestal a distinguished presence, making it suitable for formal interiors and sculptural collections. The piece remains in good overall condition and stands as a notable example of Italian sculptural furniture from the early 20th century.
