Magnificent pair of antique 17th-century Italian Baroque polychromed columns Carved, painted and gilded wood. Height 107 cm. A pair of Baroque columns carved from wood, decorated with spiralling vine branches, richly detailed bunches of grapes and broad vine leaves highlighted with gilded ornamentation against a red-painted background. The helical arrangement of the plant motifs creates a dynamic decorative rhythm characteristic of Baroque design, whilst the finely carved relief enhances the sculptural quality of the surfaces. Ideal for use in lamps.
