Description
Pair of classical heads on a pedestal. Grand Tour style. Italian school. 19th century
Cast and patinated bronze on white marble. Dimensions: 15 x 10 x 9 cm. A cabinet piece comprising two classically inspired heads, one male and one female, mounted on a cubic white marble pedestal. The contrast between the bluish-green patina of the bronze and the light surface of the stone enhances the sculptural quality of the faces. The idealised features, the serene modelling and the simplified hairstyles are reminiscent of Greco-Roman models reinterpreted for the Grand Tour market in the 19th century. The asymmetrical arrangement of the pieces on the base creates a balanced and elegant visual effect. Its significance lies in its ability to encapsulate archaeological taste, scholarly collecting and neoclassical aesthetics within a small object with a strong ornamental presence. 15 x 10 x 9 cm
