Description
Shepherd with dog and llamas. Peruvian School. 20th century
Cast, chased and assembled from 800 silver. Measures 8 x 6 cm. A small pastoral scene comprising a standing figure accompanied by a dog and two llamas, arranged on an irregular, organically shaped base. The staggered arrangement of the figures creates an immediate narrative impact, whilst the linear rendering of the fur, clothing and saddles adds a tactile richness to the composition. The minimalist modelling and expressive simplicity reflect the 20th-century Andean tradition of genre silverwork, intended for both devotional use and decorative collecting. The alternation between burnished and darkened surfaces accentuates the volumes and the picturesque character of the scene. Its appeal lies in its ability to condense an image of rural identity and popular memory into a small format of remarkable visual charm. 8 x 6 cm
