Our Lady of Mount Carmel with the Child. Spanish School. 20th century Carved, polychromed and gilded wood. Measures 25 x 29 cm. A devotional image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel standing, crowned, and holding the Infant Jesus on her left arm, designed with a base for hanging. The Virgin wears a Carmelite habit and a flowing mantle, whilst the Infant adopts a frontal, blessing posture. The scapulars suspended in the centre reinforce the Carmelite iconography and define the symbolic axis of the composition. The carving displays serene modelling, idealised faces and softly polychromed surfaces, in keeping with 20th-century Spanish religious imagery. The ivory, ochre and chestnut tones provide chromatic harmony and underscore the piece’s understated spirituality. Its value lies in its iconographic clarity, the elegance of the drapery, and the continuity of a deeply rooted popular devotional tradition. 25 x 29 cm
