Saint Anthony of Padua with the Child Jesus. JUAN DE SEVILLA ROMERO Y ESCALANTE (Granada, 1643–1695) Oil on panel. Dimensions without frame: 38 x 26 cm. Dimensions with frame: 46 x 37 cm. Saint Anthony holds the Christ Child, who carries a staff of lilies as a symbol of purity. The frontal composition, the architectural background and the intimate nature of the scene reflect the 17th-century Hispanic-American devotional tradition.
