The Great Immaculate Conception. Signed and dated 1797. Colonial School of New Spain. 18th century Oil on canvas. Dimensions without frame: 133 x 98 cm. Dimensions with frame: 184 x 130 cm. The Immaculate Conception rises above the sphere and the dragon, accompanied by angels bearing flowers, a palm frond and a mirror, beneath a luminous halo. The profusion of symbols, the brilliant colours and the triumphant composition place the work within the tradition of devotional painting in New Spain at the end of the 18th century.
