The Infant Jesus, Seville School, 17th century Carved and polychromed wood. Measures 46 x 10 cm and 65 x 21 cm including the base. This freestanding sculpture depicts the Infant Jesus standing, blessing with one hand whilst holding a globe in the other, a symbol of his universal sovereignty. The modelling is delicate and naturalistic, with particular attention paid to the child’s anatomy and the sweet expression on his face. The polychromy, with its soft tones and warm flesh tones, retains traces of brocade on the base. The work is firmly attributed to the 17th-century Seville school, characterised by its profound devotional sensibility and high technical skill. 46 x 10 cm and 65 x 21 cm
