Art Nouveau inkwell, European School, circa 1900 Gilt bronze. Measures 14 x 39 x 20 cm. This desk inkwell is designed as a richly ornamented horizontal piece, featuring two hinged circular compartments and a central handle with a cut-out profile. The decoration draws inspiration from Renaissance motifs reinterpreted in a historicist style, featuring scrolls, cartouches and mouldings of meticulous craftsmanship. The bronze work displays solid and detailed craftsmanship, although one leg is missing; this does not detract from the overall aesthetic.
