Boomerang. Aboriginal people, Australia, 19th–20th century Wood. Dimensions: 59 × 7 × 1 cm. A traditional Australian boomerang made of wood with a textured finish. This type of object was used for hunting and ceremonial purposes, and also played a significant role as a symbol of identity within Aboriginal cultures. The aerodynamic shape, balanced proportions and patina of use reflect the deep technical knowledge and close relationship with the natural environment that characterise these traditions.
