Description
Set of Bamana and Dogon locks. Mali, 20th century Wood. A collection comprising several traditional locks from the Bamana and Dogon peoples, carved from wood and designed to serve both functional and symbolic purposes. These locks were used to secure granaries, dwellings or ritual spaces, and their sculptural decoration reflected beliefs relating to protection, fertility and social status. Each piece displays formal variations and carved motifs characteristic of its cultural group, making the collection a valuable testament to the aesthetic and symbolic richness of West African utilitarian art. Lot held in an international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export licence from the country of origin may be required.
