Description
Circle of Jan Brueghel the Elder (1568–1625) – Floral border with the Virgin and Child and Saint Dominic
Oil on copper. A devotional cabinet painting in the Antwerp tradition of collaborative floral wreaths, which developed at the beginning of the 17th century. The wreath, executed with great botanical precision and decorative flair, is arranged around a central scene depicting the Virgin and Child accompanied by Saint Dominic, an iconography closely linked to the devotion to the Rosary in the context of the Counter-Reformation. The copper support, common in high-quality works, provides a smooth surface that enhances the luminosity and chromatic richness. The composition combines technical refinement, formal balance and profound symbolic significance, constituting an excellent example of early Baroque Flemish painting. Lot held in an international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export licence from the country of origin may be required.
