Description
Mughal gunpowder flask. India, 17th century
Horn. Dimensions: 16 × 3 cm. Gunpowder flask from the Mughal Empire, carved from horn, with an elegant curved shape and its original metal stopper. The piece features rich relief decoration, most notably a motif of facing gazelle heads on the mouth, the design of which extends from their horns and ears along the body. The flask is also adorned with a dynamic scene of swimming fish, a common decorative element in Mughal art. Designed to be both a functional and prestigious object, this type of piece reflects the technical and aesthetic refinement of 17th-century Indian court craftsmanship. Lot held in an international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export licence from the country of origin may be required.
