Asipim chair, Ashanti people, Ghana, circa 1910–1920 Wood, metal and leather. Dimensions: 82 × 43 × 60 cm. A traditional Asipim (“invincible”) chair of the Ashanti people, a symbol of power and prestige used by chiefs and dignitaries. Made of wood with metal fittings and a leather seat, it features a solid structure and an elegantly sloping backrest. These pieces were regarded as emblems of authority and were reserved for high-ranking ceremonies or meetings. A work of great cultural and aesthetic value, representative of traditional Ghanaian art from the early 20th century. Provenance: private collection. Lot held in an international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export licence from the country of origin may be required.
