“à la Reine” armchair in carved walnut with needlepoint tapestry upholstery, Italian School, 18th century Carved and moulded walnut with needlepoint tapestry upholstery. Dimensions: 120.5 cm high. An 18th-century Italian “à la Reine” armchair, characterised by its high, straight backrest, which lends it a sense of solemnity and presence. The walnut frame features gently curved arms carved with acanthus leaf and scroll motifs, lending dynamism to the silhouette. The turned front legs rest on claw-shaped feet and are joined by an H-shaped crossbar decorated with rocailles and foliage, reinforcing both the stability and the ornamental richness of the piece. The needlepoint tapestry upholstery covers the seat and backrest, displaying figurative scenes and floral motifs framed by garlands, characteristic of the decorative refinement of the period.
