Description
Six-drawer walnut refectory table. Spanish School. Late 16th – early 17th century. Carved walnut. Dimensions: 67 x 98 x 74 cm. A transitional refectory table from the late 16th to the early 17th century, featuring six front drawers decorated with geometric carvings and plant motifs. The wide tabletop and reinforced structure were designed to meet the needs of communal use in convents and monasteries, where this type of furniture was essential. The solidity of its profile-cut legs, joined by jambs, reinforces its functionality. Its understated yet expressive carving makes this table a paradigmatic example of Castilian convent furniture on the cusp between the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
