Description
Pair of vases and candlesticks. Napoleon III style. 19th century.
A pair of gilt bronze and porcelain candelabras, decorated with oriental-inspired polychrome enamel, probably of French manufacture in the Napoleon III style. Each candelabra takes the form of a vase or amphora, topped by a child figure holding outstretched arms bearing five lights. The porcelain body is decorated with floral and heraldic motifs in a palette of blue, red and gold, whilst the bronze bases feature Rococo-style scrolls and claw feet. The combination of gilt bronze and delicately painted porcelain reflects the eclectic taste of the second half of the 19th century for the exotic and sumptuous. This piece is a prime example of high-quality ornamental furniture, representative of 19th-century French decorative arts. Dimensions: 125 cm x 31 cm x 23 cm.
