Description
Cloisonné table clock. French School. 19th century. Gilt bronze and cloisonné enamel. Dimensions: 70 x 30 x 17 cm. The rectangular body of the clock is entirely covered in brightly coloured cloisonné enamel, predominantly cobalt blue, emerald green, red and white, upon which a dense programme of plant and geometric motifs unfolds, framed by enamelled Solomonic columns and architectural finials. At the top, a stopper featuring a painted enamel scene stands out, crowning the composition with an air of refined exoticism. The circular dial, enamelled in white, features Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, flanked by finely openwork hands. The whole rests on a gilt bronze base with richly embossed floral decoration, featuring four curved legs ending in scrolls. The piece reflects the taste for Oriental-inspired aesthetics and the technical virtuosity of cloisonné during the second half of the 19th century, within the French tradition of luxury objects. Its exquisite craftsmanship, mechanical precision and decorative value make it a notable example of 19th-century artistic watchmaking. Height x width (cm): 70 x 30 cm.
