Chinese jade funerary ornament, Eastern Zhou Period A rectangular funerary ornament decorated with a stylised Taotie-type mask, with a beautiful antique patina ranging from olive green to dark brown, showing signs of weathering and natural veining visible in the light. The plaque is pierced in the centre by an old, lateral, biconical hole, and the entire decoration is created by fine, regular incisions made with a stone abrasive, a technique characteristic of archaic jades. Nephrite jade with incised decoration. China. Eastern Zhou period. 770–475 BC. 6 x 4.5 cm. Item held in an international warehouse (within the EU).
