Description
Funerary protective amulet depicting Anubis, guardian of the necropolis God of embalming with the head of a black jackal, a symbol of regeneration and protection. Realistic head with an elongated muzzle, erect pointed ears, and incised eyes outlined in kohl; black pleated nemes headdress with gold stripes, wide ushabti collar, and shoulders covered by a black crackled chendjit. Rare wood, well-preserved thanks to its discovery in the desert. Crackled organic patina and polychromy preserved in bituminous black, ochre red and orpiment yellow. Egypt. New Kingdom or Late Period style, c. 1500–300 BC. Height 13 cm × diameter 8 cm. Lot held in an international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. An export licence from the country of origin may be required.
